Bermuda’s Team depart for Dominican Republic

The 12 & Under Tennis team selected by the Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association arrived in the Dominican Republic early Saturday evening to participate in the 2017 ITF/COTECC 12 & Under Team Championships taking place at the National Tennis Center. Tournament play begins today, Monday, July 10th, and finishes on Saturday, July 15th.

It is played with the Davis Cup/Fed Cup format of two singles matches and one doubles; which allows for the most matches possible during the 6 days of the tournament for the amount of countries participating. It is mandatory that each player plays in each tie, so it is up to the team Captain/Coach to decide which players play singles and doubles. This event also has an educational aspect to it with the ITF running educational forums for the participants every afternoon after the matches are completed. These forums will contribute to the tennis education of each player.

Last night coach Steve Bean attended the Captain’s meeting held at the National Tennis Center in Dominican Republic and the Bermuda contingent were matched up as follows: There are eight teams in the boys' division which are split into two groups of four. Bermuda is in a tough Group ‘A’ along with Dominican Republic #1, Puerto Rico and Haiti. Group ‘B’ consists of Dominican Republic #2, Jamaica, Bahamas, and Cuba. The top two finishing in each group will play in the playoff main draw.
